State of Idaho plans to poison up to 4,000 Common Ravens.
Justification: Ravens prey on the eggs of the imperiled Greater Sage-Grouse. Yet of 19 reasons for the grouse’s declining numbers, predation by other wildlife comes in at #12. Providing protected areas and requiring sustainable land management are the most important ways to conserve the grouse, not killing avian predators.

We are decimating vital sagebrush habitat that sage-grouse need. Hunting season for sage-grouse is already very short - why not outlaw it completely? We humans are refusing to accept the responsibility of our actions in this case (encroaching upon and destroying sage-grouse habitat and continuing to hunt them even as their numbers dwindle) and instead choosing to place both the blame and the subsequent punishment on ravens for engaging in natural behavior. Why would you prefer the slaughter of thousands of ravens rather than restricting what hunters can and cannot shoot? This is lazy planning, disgusting, and unethical.
